KIDZAP! Web haven for kids2003-08-05 Protective parents take heart: there is a place for your children to SAFELY enjoy the benefits of the Internet: Kidzap! Kidzap! is more than just a website. It features a wide selection of games and activities that have been tested and approved for appropriate content. Kids can access the site after a parent signs them up for a small fee. Once they login, the young users can check their email, join a messenger or discussion board, read or submit jokes, tell how God is working in their lives and read the stories of others, play games, “Ask Alex” tough questions, and browse the Internet through a safe custom built web browser. Kidzap belongs to At Promise, an organization created to provide kids with Christian products and resources for fun and learning. Rod Janz, Vice President of At Promise, explains the motivation of the organization and the website: “treating kids as if they’re at promise instead of at risk. Kidzap is short for Kids At Promise.” “We just thought we would develop some different products (for kids),” he explains. “We had a website called Kidzone Club, and along the way, we decided to create a Christian website, so Kidzap came out of it. …We’ve had great feedback regarding the site. They [the kids] enjoy the games and the characters. Parents like the safety aspect of it.” So how does Kidzap keep kids ‘at promise’ rather than ‘at risk’? Mainly by protecting them when using the Internet and providing positive and fun content for them. “One of the goals of the website was just to help kids,” says Rod. “Our three main buzz words are ‘safe’, ‘fun’, and ‘uplifting’ so we’re trying to keep kids safe with it…I just think it’s a lot of fun myself.” Tim Stuart, the President of At Promise, has written a book called “Kids At Promise” that will be available this fall.
