 A Song Base for Worship2002-09-13 Worship leaders and musicians around the world have been waiting for an escape from the office. Few people in the church outside of the worship team are aware of the long hours of administration involved in this important part of our weekly services. Several years ago, one worship band member saw the need for some organization and administration help in his department. To the delight of his band mates, he started doing something about it. He soon saw the potential to meet the need at a greater level. That’s when Dave Berryman put together his first rendition of Songbase, a software program that allows the user to easily find and print songs for overheads and songbooks, display songs with the video presenter, print chord charts, CCLI reports, and add new songs and chord charts. Today, seven years later, Songbase has caught on in every part of the world where Christian praise and worship is heard. “Songbase is the only software package available for worship leaders that combines guitar chord charts, lyrics and video presentation,” Dave explains. “That’s the thing that makes it unique – there’s no other program that does that. It actually ships with chord charts in it… It’s all pre-packaged, but you can add your own material quite easily.” Songbase has made it possible to prepare a praise and worship set, lyrics, chord charts and all, in a matter of minutes – a miracle compared to the manual process of the past. It saves hours of work in administration every week, and actually saves days of work when it comes to CCLI report time. This timesaving benefit is good news for the entire church body – it frees up time for the worship band to pray and practice. It allows them to really focus on the important part of what they do – praise and worship, which affects how the worship service is lead. Everyone benefits from a non-stressed, prayed-up praise and worship leader. Songbase also enhances worship in another way – the video presenter. This feature adds graphics to the text and really brings the songs to life visually. Dave reports that some people buy it just for the presenter. Added to that is the fact that it’s very user-friendly. “We have one church where a nine year old girl is running their video presenter with Songbase,” Dave remarks, adding, “Songbase is easy enough to learn and use without a manual.” The response to Songbase has been very positive. Dave receives letters regularly, thanking him for finally bringing an end to praise and worship administration headaches. “Yesterday, a worship leader from Germany called to thank us, and we’ve had hundred’s of others phone and write to us in the past,” he reports. The positive response is making word of mouth a great advantage for Berryman.
